Seven Days... Seven Nights(Moderato Cantabile)
Dir: Peter Brook
France, 1960, French, 91mins, DCP
Cast: Jeanne Moreau, Jean-Paul Belmondo
A ghastly scream pops the high-society bubble surrounding a factory owner’s wife - play by the luminous Jeanne Moreau - in a windswept French seaside town. After the commotion halts her son’s piano lesson, she heads downstairs to the aftermath of an apparent crime of passion. Obsessed by the situation, she connects with a factory worker and pushes him to reveal all he knows, no matter how fanciful his tale becomes. Based on Duras’ novella Moderato Cantabile, and with the author contributing to the script, English theatre and film director Peter Brook’s austere mood piece seethes with yearning, escape and the heartache of unreconciled desire.
